Lance Stroll has started eight United States Grand Prix races and scored in exactly one of them. That one came from twentieth on the grid.

Eight starts, six points, a best finish of seventh. Every other visit has ended outside the top ten.

Seven quiet afternoons and one very good one

The Williams years set the tone: eleventh in 2017 and fourteenth in 2018, both a lap down, from fifteenth on the grid each time. Thirteenth for Racing Point in 2019 was much the same.

Twelfth in 2021 continued it. 2022 was the one weekend he arrived with real track position, fifth on the grid, and it ended in a collision and eighteenth place.

Then 2023. He qualified twentieth and last at the Circuit of the Americas, and finished seventh. Thirteen places gained, six points, and the only score of his Austin career.

Normal service resumed afterwards: fifteenth in 2024, a lap down, and twelfth in 2025 from nineteenth on the grid.

A record decided on Saturday

No win, no podium, no pole and no fastest lap. He has started outside the top twelve in six of eight visits, and the one time he turned a bad grid slot into a result is the only time the points column is not a zero.

He returns on 25 October in the AMR26 for Aston Martin. The 2023 drive is proof the circuit will allow a recovery, which on this record is the most encouraging thing available.
