Oscar Piastri has started the Azerbaijan Grand Prix three times. He has finished eleventh, won it, and retired from it. There is no pattern here at all, which is its own kind of story.
Three starts, 25 points, one win. Every one of those points came on a single afternoon in 2024.
Eleventh, first, then out
The 2023 debut was the near miss: tenth on the grid, eleventh at the flag, one place outside the points at a circuit that rarely hands them back.
2024 was the complete weekend. Second on the grid for McLaren, ahead at the flag, 25 points, and a win at Baku in only his second attempt. Very few drivers on the current grid have won here at all, and none of them needed fewer goes.
Then 2025 undid it. Ninth on the grid, a retirement, classified twentieth and nothing scored. Back to back visits could hardly have gone more differently.

The shortest record with a win on it
No pole and no fastest lap, but a victory, which is more than Lando Norris has managed here in twice as many attempts. Three starts is far too small a sample to call this a good Baku record or a bad one. It is simply a very loud one.
He returns on 26 September in the MCL40. A second win would turn three scattered results into something that actually looks like a pattern.
