Max Verstappen has started ten United States Grand Prix races and finished on the podium in seven of them. Four of those were wins, and three came in consecutive years.

Ten starts, four wins, 172 points and exactly one afternoon that produced nothing at all.

One early retirement, then almost nothing but podiums

The 2015 debut was a fourth place for Toro Rosso from eighth on the grid, which was a serious result in that car. A gearbox failure ended the 2016 race and left him twentieth, and it is still the only Circuit of the Americas weekend he has finished without points.

What followed was a run of recoveries. Fourth from sixteenth in 2017, second from eighteenth in 2018, third from third in 2019. Starting position has mattered less to him here than at almost any other circuit.

The wins began in 2021 from pole, with Red Bull, and continued in 2022 from second and 2023 from sixth. Third place in 2024 broke the sequence before he won again in 2025, once more from pole.

Four wins in five years at a circuit where he had previously needed two attempts to score at all is a steep curve, and it has come almost entirely with the same team.

The defending winner, and the form driver

Nine of his ten starts here have produced points, and seven have produced a trophy. Only Lewis Hamilton has won this race more often among drivers on the current grid, and Hamilton needed four more attempts to get there.

He arrives on 25 October in the RB22 defending the win and having taken the last two races of the season. On this circuit's recent evidence that is an uncomfortable combination for everybody else.
