Oliver Bearman Keeps Starting Tenth at Baku and Keeps Coming Away With Points

Oliver Bearman, one of three current F1 drivers born in May, racing for Haas at the 2026 Chinese Grand Prix

Oliver Bearman has started three Azerbaijan Grand Prix races and scored in the two of them that began from tenth on the grid. The one that did not start there gave him nothing.

Three starts, three points, a best finish of ninth. It is a short record with an unusually clear rule running through it.

A Haas debut that paid, and a repeat two years later

Baku 2024 was his first race for Haas. He had already made his Formula 1 debut earlier that year in a Ferrari, but this was the start of the relationship that became his seat. Tenth on the grid, tenth at the flag, one point on his first outing for the team.

2025 was the flat one. Fifteenth on the grid, twelfth at the end, nothing scored, and no real opportunity to change that from where he started.

Haas remains the only team on the current grid never to have finished on the podium.

2026 brought the best result of the three and it came from the same grid slot as the first. Tenth again on Saturday, ninth at the flag, two points, on an afternoon when seven cars did not finish at all. Haas put both cars in the top nine that day, with Esteban Ocon eighth.

Three finishes from three at a circuit that keeps score

No win, no podium, no pole and no fastest lap, but also no retirements, which at Baku is worth stating. Forty one cars have failed to finish this race since 2017 and none of them have been his.

The pattern is the interesting part. Two tenth-place grid slots have produced two points finishes and a fifteenth-place one produced nothing, which at a circuit with one real overtaking zone is about what the geometry allows. Get him into the top ten on Saturday and the points have followed both times.
