Lando Norris has started six United States Grand Prix races and scored in every one. He has finished second twice and has never won it.

Six starts, 66 points, two podiums, no retirements. The one weekend he started from pole is the one that got away.

A climb up the order, and a pole that turned into fourth

The first three were a steady rise in a car that was rising with him: seventh in 2019 from eighth, eighth in 2021 from seventh, sixth in 2022 from sixth. Points every time, never near the front.

2023 changed the level. He qualified second and finished second, 18 points and his first podium at the Circuit of the Americas.

2024 was the frustrating one. Pole position on Saturday, his only one here, and fourth at the flag on Sunday. Charles Leclerc won that race from fourth on the grid, which is the sort of swap that tends to stay with a driver.

2025 restored order without resolving anything: second on the grid, second at the flag, another 18 points and still no win.

Six starts, six scores, no win

All six have come with McLaren and none has ended early. Two seconds and a fourth from the last three visits is the form of a driver who should have won here by now, and the pole in 2024 is the clearest evidence of it.

He goes again on 25 October in the MCL40. A first Austin win would also be the first by a McLaren driver here since Hamilton in 2012.
