Kari Motor Speedway is the busiest circuit in Indian single-seater racing, and the one the F4 Indian Championship has leaned on hardest in 2026, taking both September rounds.
It's small, it's technical, and it's about to change shape.
The essentials
| Location | Chettipalayam, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu |
|---|---|
| Opened | 2003 |
| Length | 2.100 km |
| Turns | 15 |
| FIA grade | 4 |
At 2.100 km it's one of the shorter permanent circuits hosting a national championship anywhere, and that has a specific effect on the racing. A Formula 4 field completes a lap in just over a minute. Traffic in qualifying is a constant problem, and the pack stays bunched in a way it wouldn't at a longer venue.

Fifteen turns in 2.100 km means corners arrive relentlessly. There's an extended straight, around 800 metres, and then a technical remainder that demands precise throttle control and disciplined lines rather than outright bravery.
For a Formula 4 driver that combination is close to ideal as a learning venue. The straight gives a genuine overtaking opportunity and a slipstream, and the rest of the lap punishes an untidy exit immediately, because the next corner is already there.
Lap records
| Category | Time | Driver | Car | Year |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Outright race lap | 1:03.296 | Neel Jani | Wolf-Aprilia GB08 | 2024 |
| Formula 4 | 1:06.386 | Ruhaan Alva | Mygale M21-F4 | 2024 |
That three-second gap is one of the most useful reference points in Indian motorsport, because it lets you feel the difference between categories at a circuit you can go and stand at. The Wolf GB08 is Indian Racing League machinery; the Mygale is the F4 car.
Alva set his record in the same 2024 season he finished championship runner-up to Aqil Alibhai. More on that year in every F4 Indian champion.

The circuit is being resurfaced with three new sections under construction, and the reworked layout is expected to come out at just over 2.2 km.
This matters more than a resurfacing normally would. A layout change invalidates every lap record set on the old configuration, so the times above become historical the moment the new track is raced on. Any publication still quoting them as current after that point is simply wrong, us included, which is why this page carries the layout explicitly rather than just the time.
Confirm which configuration a session ran on before comparing any two lap times here.
The F4 Indian Championship has used Kari since 2024 and opened both of the first two rounds of 2026 at the venue, on 12 to 13 September and 19 to 20 September. The Indian Racing League races here too, which is where the outright lap record comes from.
Beyond the festival, the circuit carries a full domestic calendar across cars and motorcycles and is one of the main venues for Indian national-level racing generally. Full 2026 dates in the festival calendar.

Kari sits at Chettipalayam on the outskirts of Coimbatore, which is well connected by air and rail. It's one of the more accessible circuits in the country for a spectator, and race weekend tickets are priced at a level with no comparison to anything at Formula 1 level.
Check with the circuit and the organiser for specific event access, because arrangements differ between a national championship round and a club meeting.
Why it suits Formula 4
Short circuits flatter junior categories. A 2.100 km lap means more laps per session, which means more learning per rupee of running, and the low top speeds keep the consequences of a mistake manageable for drivers who were in karts eighteen months earlier.
It's the right venue for the job this championship is doing. The series is explained in the complete guide, and the other venues are covered in our guides to the Madras International Circuit and the Navi Mumbai Street Circuit.
