Gabriel Bortoleto's Dutch Grand Prix record is two starts and no points, and both followed the same shape: a decent Saturday undone on Sunday.
It was a quiet afternoon in a difficult car at a circuit that is unusually unkind to drivers seeing it for the first time in a Formula 1 machine.
A first visit that went backwards
Qualifying thirteenth was the better half of the weekend. Sunday cost him two places and left him fifteenth, outside the points and out of the conversation, which at Zandvoort is what tends to happen when a driver starts in the lower midfield.
Despite the result, the qualifying position is the number worth holding on to. Thirteenth in a Sauber, at that stage of the season, was not a bad Saturday. He went four places better in 2026, qualifying ninth, and still came away empty handed.
One race, and a hard place to learn
Zandvoort punishes inexperience more than most circuits. The corners are blind, the banking changes what the car does underneath you and there is almost no run off to save a mistake. A rookie finishing fifteenth here is not a story, it is close to the expected outcome.
2026: ninth on the grid, thirteenth at the flag
The 2026 race repeated the 2025 pattern, from a much better starting point. Bortoleto qualified ninth for Audi, his best Zandvoort grid slot by four places, and dropped to thirteenth by the flag.
Losing four places on a Sunday at a circuit this hard to overtake at usually means the car went backwards rather than the driver. The Saturday, though, was a genuine step: ninth is a long way from where a Sauber was qualifying twelve months earlier.

A record still to be written
No points, no podium, no pole and no fastest lap from two starts. Be that as it may, both came in the slower half of the field, and the qualifying pace has improved sharply between them.
Bortoleto's Dutch Grand Prix record is still one of the emptiest in this series, and still among the least meaningful. Two visits, no points, and a qualifying trend that suggests the results will follow.
