The Madras International Circuit is where Indian single-seater racing has its deepest roots, and it is where the F4 Indian Championship ran its entire first season in 2023.
It is also the most capable permanent circuit in the country by FIA grading, which is a fact worth knowing before anyone tells you India has nowhere to race. You might have heard of the Buddh International Circuit and the famous Sebastian Vettel dominance, but the Madras International Circuit is legendary in its own right.
It is also India's first CIK-Certified Karting Circuit near Chennai. Double Formula One World Champion Mika Hakkinen travelled all the way to India to inaugurate the circuit.

An FIA Grade 2 licence is the significant number there. Grade 1 is the Formula 1 requirement; Grade 2 covers essentially everything below it, which in practice means the Madras International Circuit is certified for categories well beyond anything that currently races in India.
How many turns at the Madras International Circuit?
At 3.717 km across 12 turns, MIC is a more conventional permanent circuit than Kari Motor Speedway: longer lap, fewer corners per kilometre, more space between incidents. Consistent 11 m track width gives genuine room to race side by side, which a narrower circuit does not.
The club configuration at 2.067 km with 7 turns is used for smaller meetings and for a lot of the track-day and training activity that fills the calendar between national rounds.
The F4 Indian Championship ran its debut 2023 season entirely at MIC, and the circuit has remained on the calendar since. Shane Chandaria sealed the 2025 title here.
