Zandvoort is where Liam Lawson's Formula 1 career started. The 2023 Dutch Grand Prix was his debut, and it arrived with almost no warning.
Three starts here have produced six points, a best finish of seventh and a record that still matters more for what it began than for what it scored.
A Zandvoort debut nobody planned
Daniel Ricciardo broke his hand in second practice at Zandvoort in 2023. Lawson, then the reserve driver, was in the car for qualifying. He started nineteenth and finished thirteenth in a chaotic, rain interrupted race, which for a driver who had not expected to be racing that weekend was a composed way to arrive.
No points, be that as it may it was the beginning of everything that followed, including a full time seat.
His second visit came in 2025 with Racing Bulls and looked more promising on Saturday, eighth on the grid being comfortably his best Zandvoort qualifying. However the race went the other way and he came home twelfth, outside the points again.
For two attempts the scoreboard read zero, which was a harsh reflection of a driver who had already qualified in the top eight here. The third attempt fixed it.
2026: points at last, and a promotion
Lawson came back to Zandvoort in 2026 in a Red Bull, promoted from Racing Bulls over the winter. He qualified eighth, matching his best Zandvoort grid slot, and this time converted it, finishing seventh for his first points at the circuit.
Six points is a small return in isolation. At the track where he made an unplanned debut as a reserve driver three years earlier, in the senior car of the team that put him there, it is a neat piece of symmetry.

A record that finally scored
No wins, poles or podiums from three races, but the points column is no longer blank.
