Ever since Max Verstappen entered Formula 1, he has been a Red Bull driver. He signed a contract extension after winning his first Championship which was set to last until the end of the 2028 season. However, there were a lot of rumours suggesting that he could head elsewhere from 2027. But now, Verstappen has put all the rumours to rest, signing a contract extension to remain at Red Bull until the 2030 season.
With this contract extension, Verstappen currently has the longest contract on the F1 grid. There was some doubt on whether Verstappen even wants to drive in F1 given that he is not a fan of the current regulations, but it seems as though he is hoping that the cars will get better as the years go on.
Max Verstappen to make F1 history with new contract extension
From 2022 to 2024, Max Verstappen broke a number of records to have his name etched into the history books. Now, the Dutch driver will most likely do it again with his new contract.
At the end of the 2030 season, which will mark the end of Verstappen's current contract, he would have broken the record for most races with a single team in F1. He will also be the only driver with 300+ races.
After the 2026 Hungarian GP, Verstappen has 221 Grand Prix race with Red Bull to his name. Assuming that this year will have 22 races, he will finish the season with 232 races with Red Bull. But by the end of the 2030 season, Verstappen will potentially have 328 races, assuming 24 races to take place every year.
Right now, Lewis Hamilton has the most races with a single team. He took part in a total of 246 races while driving for Mercedes. There is no doubt that Verstappen will break this record if he fulfills his new contract.
The closest driver on the grid with an active streak for this record is Lando Norris with 163 race starts after the 2026 Hungarian GP. With Verstappen's contract extension, it is next to impossible for Norris to catch up with the Dutch driver.
