About Autódromo Internacional do Algarve
The Autódromo Internacional do Algarve at Portimão opened in 2008 and joined the Formula 1 calendar in 2020 and 2021, when the pandemic forced a substantially rewritten schedule. Drivers liked it immediately.
Built into the Algarve hills, it has significant elevation change and a series of blind crests where the car goes light over the top and the corner beyond is invisible on entry. The final corner is a long, downhill, banked right leading onto the pit straight.
Its two Grands Prix were both won by Lewis Hamilton, the first of them his 92nd victory, which took him past Michael Schumacher's record.
